Was I a little hard on this book ? Maybe. And is it because I picked it up thinking it was something it wasn’t, and I kind of felt cheated? That is a real possibility. Maybe it is because of the bombardment of Facebook politics that got me in a sour state, or not. Maybe it was because I have a deep physical dislike to Obama’s healthcare solutions, that were pushed on me from the first paragraph. I am not entirely sure why I felt resentment reading this take on history, but I did. I gave it three stars, because I feel the book was misrepresented.
Abe Lincoln on Acid was so much more than the title suggests and I almost felt like the marketing behind the cover was to pull people in to buy something that is not what they expect it to be. I felt a little robbed as I began to read. I am happy I received this as an ARC, because If I would have paid for it, I would demand a refund. As much as I wanted to read and enjoy this book, It really was just not for me. From my standpoint, it was a really liberal view on the realities and the what ifs of the past. I was expecting something a little more vast than seeing the world of today through rose colored glasses. I wonder just what Abe would think of our world, and I do not believe he would be as they wrote him. It was a lighthearted attempt at comedy and historical notions of the past, and as well as it was thought out and written to make the book as the authors wanted it to be, I do not really think I will be reading the first of the series.
*I received a copy of this book in return for an honest review.
